School News and Updates

Good morning, Panther Family! Second quarter is in full swing. This week, we are focusing on starting our preparation for post-secondary life and testing. Seniors will have a post-secondary kick-off week led by Mr. Hecker and Mrs. Zimmerman with daily opportunities to focus on preparing for a successful life after FHS. Wednesday will be our first practice SAT for the year. 9th-11th graders, as well as any seniors who opt in, will complete a real SAT practice test. These tests are created by the College Board and taken on the same system as the official test in the spring. This fall assessment gives us great benchmark information to provide support, so our goal is to have every student here, well-rested and ready to test Wednesday morning!

Important Reminders

  • On Monday, November 16, we will be administering the Franklin County Youth Survey to our students. This survey helps the health department track community trends and identify needs of our young people, with respect to substance use, mental health and a wide range of risk and protective factors that influence a young person's well-being.

  • We are asking parents to fill out this form to provide consent for your child to participate in the survey. https://forms.gle/YWKoPGcz4NNVV87m7

  • Next week is our Post-Secondary Readiness Week. Seniors will participate in the sessions and activities for a graduation cord, but we want all students and staff to participate in our spirit days.

Academic Corner:

Hello Parents and Students,
We are planning to give our first practice SAT through Blue Book this Thursday, November, 12th. We will be testing all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. We would love to get a baseline score for all of our students, so please make sure you or your student is here Thursday. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Our reading intervention program will begin meeting this Thursday. These groups will meet every Tuesday and Thursday for a half an hour during Crest. If your student is not in an intervention group, they will be reading books during our Drop Everything And Read time. Creating a culture of literacy is a high priority here at FHS. We will also be retesting all students who have not reached a benchmark score this winter. If you are interested in accessing your student's current scores or if you have any questions about our reading intervention program, please reach out to me at lauren.traylor@frankfort.kyschools.us
